Cardigan Sweater
Caring For Your Cardigan Sweater
Most of us have articles of clothing in our wardrobe that we couldn't bear to part with. Either the piece holds special memories for us or it is the most comfortable article of clothing we own. Sometimes, though, we ruin our own favorite articles of clothing by mistake or poor care. Here are a few tips to keep your favorite cardigan sweater looking and feeling brand new.
As with any sweater, you want to be careful when washing it. Be very wary of using your washer and dryer and only do so if the instructions on your sweater's tag advise you to do so. In most cases, you'll want to wash your sweater by hand using warm water and detergent. You want to squeeze your sweater dry, but avoid rinsing it because this can cause your garment to lose its shape. In some cases you can use your washer on the spin cycle to remove all excess water from your cardigan.
To dry your cardigan, you should lay it flat on a towel. A cardigan is very vulnerable at this stage - even more than other sweaters - because of it can lose its shape quite easily. You want to flip and rotate your sweater every so often to ensure even drying. When you do so, make sure the sweater is holding its shape correctly.
If you spill something on your cardigan and it leaves a stain, you'll want to take your sweater to the dry cleaners. If you don't know what you're doing, trying to remove the stain can destroy the entire garment either through shrinkage or discoloration. Spending a few dollars at the local dry cleaners will ensure that your favorite cardigan does not sustain any unnecessary damage during the stain removal process.
Many cardigans these days come with embellishments such as ribbons and beads. While these make for lovely decorative touches, they can make the washing and drying process more complex. This is situation where you might want to leave it up to the experts and take your cardigan into your local dry cleaners.
IN terms of storing your cardigan, you should neatly fold it in your closet rather than hanging it up. The weight from the shoulders when hanging can cause the cardigan to lose its shape.
Following these simple steps will ensure that your cardigan sweater looks as clean and feels as comfy as the day you bought it.
